Syllabus

We will follow the course outline set forth by the department, but at twice the speed.

Grading

Your final grade will be a weighted arithmetic mean of homework and exam scores.
The higher score from the following two schemes will be automatically chosen: Grades will be posted on the MyUCLA Gradebook.

Examinations

There will be one (1) midterm exam on Monday, July 15, 2013, during regularly-scheduled class time.
The final exam is scheduled for Friday, August 2, 2013, 09:00–12:00 (three hours).
Please note that the final is not during regularly-scheduled class time.
You will receive a failing grade unless you attend the final exam.

Homework

Homework sets will be assigned weekly, and are due at Monday lectures.
They will be returned by your TA during discussion sections.
Collaboration is encouraged, as long as you
  1. write your own solutions and
  2. write the names of your collaborators.
If you copied work (or had collaborated without writing down your collaborators),
UCLA academic dishonesty policies shall be applied.
Late homework sets will not be accepted.
Homework sets will be posted on the course website.

Announcements

Midterm exam will cover material in lectures up to Jul 8 and HW sets 1–3 (sections 1–15, except the starred sections 6 and 13).
