You will submit your programming assignments via a system called the Homework Submission Program. Questions? Let me or the prefector or Mike Tie know.
Assigned Monday, 9/12. Due Wednesday, 9/14 by class time. Send me an e-mail introducing yourself. Where are you from, what brings you to CS class, what major(s) are you considering, what's your favorite ungulate...whatever you feel like telling me about yourself.
Assigned Monday, 9/12. Do this by Wednesday, 9/14, but don't hand anything in. Go to one of the Math/CS labs (CMC304 and CMC306 are the two we use most often in CS classes) and choose a computer. All of the Math/CS computers are set up to allow you to boot into either Windows XP or Linux. For this class, you will be using Linux. If the computer you choose is showing a Linux login screen, go ahead and log in. Otherwise, restart the computer and choose Linux when you're given a choice. Once you have logged in to your Linux account, work through Typographical Conventions, Introduction to the UNIX Operating System, and Tutorials 1-4 of this Unix tutorial from the University of Surrey. Bring questions to class.
Assigned Friday, 9/16. Due 9:00PM Tuesday, 9/20. Write a program that asks the user to enter a year, and prints out a message reporting whether the specified year is a leap year. Recall that years divisible by 4 are leap years, with a small exception. If a year is divisible by 100 but not by 400, it's not a leap year. For example, 1700, 1800, and 1900 were not leap years, but 1600 and 2000 were.
Put all your code inside our friend "public static void main". Early next week, we will start talking about better ways to organize your code, but for this task, just focus on getting the program to work correctly (and to run at all).
Assigned Wednesday, 9/21. Due 5:00PM Friday, 9/23. Work through this lab exercise on using classes, and hand in the Drawing.java program described in the lab.
