For our Comps project, we created an interactive web tool for filtering, visualizing, and downloading temperature measurements from Carleton's Geothermal Well system. Our goal was to provide easier access to this data for geology professors, researchers, and students, in addition to the broader Carleton community.
The above description outlines how our website can be used by an introductory geology student with limited knowledge of geology and geothermal systems. Through the selection of inputs, the student can manipulate parameters to generate various visualizations. For instance, they can compare the winter and summer temperatures of the system. The website offers supplementary details on the queries available above the select inputs, and students can access the about and documentation pages for additional information on the site and the project. To help students get started, the website also provides a default set of parameters.
The above description highlights how our website can be utilized by advanced users, such as researchers or professors. While these users can still utilize the built-in queries, like the temperature profile, they also have the option to directly query the database and download a CSV file with the resulting data. This additional functionality allows for more advanced and in-depth analyses to be performed, beyond the capabilities of the built-in queries alone. Coupled with other commercialized softwares commonly used, the queried data will fasten the research process
