Savu was created as a senior capstone project by a group of six Computer Science majors at Carleton college.
Sydney Marie Delp
Sydney is a third year Computer Science major from Duluth, Minnesota. After graduating Carleton, she looks forward to working as a Security Consultant at NetSPI in Minneapolis. In her spare time, Sydney wonders why she thinks she has spare time. She would like to thank her family, friends, and beloved rhino Tyrone for supporting her during the course of the project. She also thanks her wonderful group members and Sherri Lynn Goings for making this project the absolute best it could be.
Qwilleran Chapin Duvall
Qwill is a Computer Science and Studio Art double major who grew up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. They have always loved art but didn’t even have a conception of what computer programming was until coming to Carleton. Luckily, Qwill figured it out and was excited to be able to use both computer skills and creative beautification skills in the making of Savu. At Carleton, they also work in the Gender and Sexuality Center and co-lead the Swing Dance club, known as Rugcutters. After graduation, Qwill will begin work at ThoughtWorks, a privately owned global software delivery and products company.
Zachary William Levonian
Zachary William Levonian is a Computer Science major at Carleton College. He enjoys hiking and making uninformed design decisions. Zachary's most notable feature is living with Carleton mathematics major Gregory Michel, who brought the game "2048" to Carleton. For that, he will be forever vilified. He plans to spend 2015 exploring new ways to deflect family questions about his employment.
David Anthony Murro
David Murro hails from Ardsley, New York and is now finishing his Computer Science major. His hobbies include mountain biking, video gaming and watching football. His proudest accomplishment is helping to catch a Zapdos with a master ball alongside 60,000 other people. He plans to graduate early and spend spring term playing lots of old Nintendo games.
Nathaniel Shawn Roberts
Nathan Roberts was born in San Diego, California. For reasons unknown to modern science, he decided to leave the beautiful beaches, temperate climate, and In-n-Outs of his homeland and travel to rural Minnesota to attend Carleton College. After almost four years he has mastered the arts of not freezing to death, cooking food that is described as “smelling good,” crafting the perfect Manhattan cocktail, and writing code that runs but might or might not stand up to closer scrutiny. After graduation, Nathan plans to spend a month traveling the United States. He starts work at Epic Systems in August.
Daniel Alexander Simmons-Marengo
Daniel is a History major at Carleton College. He specializes in modern Europe, with a focus on the Second World War and Nazi Germany. Other interests include the history of nuclear programs in the 20th century. His senior thesis was a case study of two German corporations during the Nazi period, focusing on their attempts to win the favor of the Nazi regime. No one is exactly sure why he is listed on this page.
Sherri Lynn Goings
The professor with the hair. You've seen her before. Sherri served as the advisor for the Savu project. For her continued forbearance in the face of our often disappointing progress, we thank her.
Yevgeni Boris Smirnov
Yevgeni Boris Smirnov was born May 2, [REDACTED] in Novgorod, Russia. After completing his secondary education, he studied Electrical Engineering at the [REDACTED] Academy in St. Petersberg. Following graduation, he was commissioned as a Junior Lieutenant in Russian Naval Spetznaz. Smirnov saw action in [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and during a particularly tumultuous time in [REDACTED] where he met his future wife, Irina. After serving [REDACTED] years in the Russian Navy and reaching the rank of [REDACTED], Smirnov operated a successful [REDACTED] distillery in Belarus, which he soon sold for [REDACTED]. He then entered the Computer Engineering Ph.D. program at the prestigious Bauman School in Moscow. However, he did not complete the program due to [REDACTED], and currently resides in his hometown of Novgorod working as a freelance hacker.
The Savu team would also like to thank Amy Csizmar-Dalal for providing design resources, Mike Tie for assisting with technical matters, Andy Exley for allowing us to try to recruit his students to test Savu, and all of our testers. This project would not have been possible without you.
